Op vrijdagmiddag 9 januari 2015, 15.15-17.00 uur, zal de petitie ‘Naar een andere universiteit’ worden gelanceerd en aangeboden aan vertegenwoordigers van de politiek en de universiteiten. De petitie is opgesteld en ondertekend door 17 organisaties, die samen een groot deel van de universitaire medewerkers representeren.
BON is medeondertekenaar van de petitie en nodigt u van harte uit om bij dit evenement aanwezig te zijn. De voorstellen die de petitie doet (van 60 naar 80 procent vaste aanstellingen, van outputfinanciering naar inhoudelijke beoordeling en medezeggenschap als recht in plaats van gunst) kunnen rekenen op de steun van BON. Deze kwesties zijn ook ter sprake gekomen op de door BON georganiseerde Nacht van de Universiteit op 6 juni jongstleden.
De bijeenkomst vindt plaats in zaal 16A-00 (de Kerkzaal, te bereiken via de liften naar de 15e etage), hoofdgebouw VU, De Boelelaan 1105, Amsterdam (zie routebeschrijving).

De 'European University Association' (EUA, Brussel) besteedt aandacht aan TTIP (ook).
"While the trade agreements do not in first instance focus on education, this does not mean that it is in principle excluded. Not-for-profit services are generally exempt from the negotiations. Article 1.3 of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) states: “any services supplied in the exercise of governmental authority … neither on a commercial basis nor in competition with one or more service suppliers”.
But how these are defined is open to interpretation. As higher education institutions explore diverse funding streams, the borderline between public, private, not-for-profit and for-profit is increasingly unclear."

“EUA is concerned with the status of higher education as a tradable service and the extent to which HE might feature in future international free trade agreements (FTAs). A number of such agreements are currently being prepared. TTIP has received the most publicity, but all of them are significant. The others are: the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), in which the EU is not involved; the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) recently concluded between the EU and Canada; FTAs between the EU and Japan, and the EU and Singapore; and – much less publicised – the Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA).
